IRA Charitable Rollover
The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, was signed into law last week! This is great news as we no longer have to worry each December if Congress will take action to extend certain tax relief provisions, like the IRA Charitable Rollover.
IRA Charitable Rollovers are an important giving vehicle for our donors and for the donors of many nonprofit organizations. The IRA Charitable Rollover allows taxpayers age 70 1/2 or older to transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA accounts directly to a charity without first having to recognize the distribution as income.
Donors of an IRA have several options to support charitable causes and community needs including:
- Designated Funds to benefit favorite charities
- Scholarship Funds to support students pursuing education
- Field of Interest Funds to support causes that you are passionate about
The bill also made permanent the enhanced deductions for conservation easements and gifts of food inventory, extended several other tax relief provisions which expired at the end of calendar year 2014, and included numerous additional tax policy changes.
