When things go wrong in people’s lives, often one need spills into another … and another … and another.
That’s exactly what happened to Jose. Returning from a visit with family two years ago, he was shocked to learn that his apartment lease would not be renewed. Wheelchair-bound and alone, living on Social Security Disability Income, the 59-year-old had nowhere to turn. After he was hospitalized because of complications from diabetes, he became homeless.
That’s when CRC entered the picture.
NCH Health System suggested Jose call us. We connected him to the Hunger & Homeless Coalition, which helped him find housing. Controlling Jose’s diabetes would require ongoing medical attention, so CRC guided him to Healthcare Network. When the brakes on his wheelchair stopped working, CRC located an organization that came to the rescue with a working wheelchair at no cost to him.
Today, Jose is managing life’s challenges much better, and he often stops by the CRC office to thank staff for helping him pick up the pieces when his life fell apart.
